ABOUT US

Community Capacity Building Initiative (CCBI) was launched in 2001 as a Non Governmental Organization to contribute to the mitigation of poverty, health, gender and environment related problems by enhancing the capacity of communities to access and utilize knowledge and resources for the benefit of these communities.  CCBI works with community based organizations (CBOs) to build their capacity for health improvement in malaria, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support, water and sanitation, family planning, gender and mitigation on gender based violence (GBV), economic empowerment, and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

Bridging Community Gaps for Sustained Development
Community Capacity Building Initiative (CCBI) programming focuses on providing communities with knowledge, skills and resources to enable them to develop, and to improve their standard of living by having better health, increased income, enhanced social status, and a cleaner environment through sustainable programs. CCBI provides training to CBOs, women groups, FBOs, youth groups, cooperatives and societies for the purpose of strengthening their capacity to effectively participate in health programmes.

CCBI builds community capacity in the following areas:
  • Mobilization and advocacy on HIV/AIDS and malaria programmes and interventions, family planning, support to vulnerable groups, adolescent reproductive health and nutrition and food security
  • Empowerment of care givers of orphans and vulnerable children with knowledge and skills to provide effective and efficient care to children under their care
  • Conducting baseline studies, monitoring and evaluation, and impact assessment of community programmes in health, agriculture and the environment, including cash transfer programmes, water, sanitation and hygiene, and food security
  • Interpretation, dissemination and utilization of research results for strengthening community programmes in health, agriculture, and science and environment
  • Establishment, strengthening and implementation of referral system among Community Health Extension Workers and Community Health Workers
  • Provision of communities with knowledge and skills in water and sanitation and prevention of water-borne infections at community level
  • Conducting Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Participatory Learning and Action (PLA); project design; Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) of communities; Community Needs Assessments; and strategic planning for community programmes, and participatory methodologies on effective natural resources management
  • Evaluation of cultural issues and values in health, nutrition and the environment, and their impact on projects
