CCBI AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SYSTEMS STRENGTHENING

Community Organizational Development and Systems Strengthening (ODSS) are the initiatives that contribute to the development and strengthening of community-based organizations to improve knowledge of, and access to improved health service delivery. Hence, CCBI conducts community systems strengthening initiatives that encourage civil society organizations (CSOs) to achieve improved outcomes for prevention, treatment, and care and support programs in HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, water, sanitation and hygiene, diarrhea infections and other diseases; gender and gender based violence; governance at community level, and community development. Through its CSS programs, CCBI enhances community demands for quality health services in an integrated, holistic and sustainable manner.

Due to the current approaches to include communities in project design and implementation, and increase their demand for health services, and the increased availability of significant financial resources to respond to diseases at community level, there is a greater than ever pressure on national systems to scale-up and improve the quality of implementation efforts, and to ensure program success through strengthened community systems.

The broad theme of ODSS that CCBI puts in place includes monitoring and evaluation, reporting and knowledge management. Specifically, CCBI provides knowledge and skills as part of its community organizations strengthening programme in the following areas:

  • M & E planning
  • Data collection and management
  • Data analysis and use
  • Data quality
  • Project reporting
  • Knowledge management
  • M & E oversight and supervision of sub reporting entities

CCBI implements community systems strengthening programmes in the following areas:

Building capacity of community-based organizations to provide an increased range, or quality of services, through, physical infrastructure development, including obtaining and retaining office space, holding bank accounts, financial accounting and income generation activities, and improving communications technology.
Enhancing organizational systems development, including improvements in the financial management of community-based organizations, and the development of strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and information management capacities.
Building partnerships and linkages at the local level to improve coordination, enhance impact, and avoid duplication of service delivery. Strengthen social capital (bonding and bridging) to enhance understanding among communities and strengthen community cohesion and social and development programming
Strengthen sustainable financing at community level, including a focus on supporting initiatives to plan for and achieve predictability of resources over a long period.
